Libby Johnston – Graduate Case Study

Studying Human Geography at Newcastle University sparked an interest in the link between housing and community, for Libby.

“I wanted to pursue my career in this field and within an organisation with social objectives,” she explained.

“Sanctuary has a unique offering with its commercially driven environment and sustainable provision of services in a not-for-profit capacity. The Graduate Programme’s rotations around different business areas, in one of the UK’s largest housing associations, and the experience that this would bring also really appealed to me.”

Starting the Graduate Development Programme in 2016, Libby undertook placements in Supported Living, Maintenance and Reinvestment, Commercial and Care, which not only provided her with great variety but also highlighted both her strengths and gaps in her skillset.

Having completed the Charted Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Certificate and PRINCE2 Practitioner Project Management qualifications at Sanctuary, Libby said: “The graduate scheme offers an excellent balance of support and being challenged. A dedicated learning and development manager, and an established peer support system, encourages active growth and reflection for improvement.”

Libby currently works as a Business Analyst in Sanctuary Care. “Working with colleagues across the Group, I have the opportunity to manage a wide range of projects to make sure we deliver the best service to residents and ensure our teams work as effectively as possible”, she added.
